Let's put it this way, after leaving at 9pm from Berkeley and arriving in Portland at 6am after driving all through the night, the first place Laura and Kip go is Pine State. Laura loves the simple biscuit and fried chicken sandwich and Kip goes for the Reggie Deluxe, with is shown above --- go big or go home, they say.

The Screen Door

When you order fried chicken and waffles here, it's piled three fists high with a knife stabbed through it to hold it all together. Laura would have posted that picture, but didn't want everyone to think she was obsessed with fried chicken after Pine State. Screen Door's cheddar cheese grits are amazing and they both highly recommend it.

Podnuh's Pit BBQ

Laura has yet to go here, but Kip says it's awesome. They were one of the candidates for our wedding catering.

Don't judge their food by their website. They are amazing, and you'll all find out, because they won the job for our catering!

BUNK Sandwiches

Portland, OR 97214

We first heard about BUNK from Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We were not disappointed. Their pork belly cubano is amazing. Every sandwich is pretty amazing. If you're tempted to try their 'bunkmosa' (orange juice and Miller High Life aka the 'champagne' of beer), Laura can vouch for it --- it's not great, but it's not awful. Drink it once purely to say you've had one of the most hick drinks you've ever come across.

While your waiting to eat tapas at Toro Bravo, grab a cocktail here --- it's right upstairs.

Rogue Ales Public House
1339 NW Flanders St
Portland, OR 97209

You can find a Rogue Ale House in San Francisco, but Kip and Laura were first introduced to Rogue in Portland. Great beers with equally great pint glasses for purchase (Laura likes to collect pint glasses).

McMenamins Kennedy School

Portland, OR 97211

You can't go 1/2 a mile without running into a McMenamins. The Kennedy School is one of their best places. As you probably guessed, it's a converted elementary school. Not only are the classrooms now hotel rooms, but there are multiple bars, restaurants, a brewery, and a theater (where you can bring said beer into).
